Why Use Radiotherapy?

Why Use Radiotherapy?

We are aiming to cure cancers with radiotherapy, which can be used alone or in combination with chemotherapy.

How Does It Work?

Radiotherapy utilises high energy x-rays to permanently damage the DNA of cancer cells, causing them to die.

Why Use Chemotherapy?

Why Use Chemotherapy?

Chemotherapy can be used after other treatments such as surgery, to kill any cancer cells that might remain in the body.

How Does It Work?

Chemo may be used to shrink a tumour before surgery or radiation therapy. It may be used after surgery or radiation therapy to help kill any remaining cancer cells.

Cancer cells are human cells that have, for various reasons, decided to grow and divide inappropriately. There are a number of reasons that this can be the case ranging from inherited genetic defects, to acquired mutations from carci- nogen exposure (e.g.smoking/UV radiation), to the efects of natural ageing.
