Therapy Delivery

Here at Response Oncology, our dedicated team of local specialists provide local treatment based on your unique needs with a focus on privacy, comfort and support for you and your family.

We specialise in radiotherapy services, with safe and cost-effective treatments for cancers and some non-cancerous conditions.

Important info

This is the current standard of care for safe and effective radiotherapy delivery, where the radiation fields used in radiotherapy sessions are shaped to match the target area. The targeting mechanism focus precisely on the target area while avoiding the healthy surrounding normal tissue, which allow the delivery of high dose and high energy x-rays.

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is a more advanced type of radiotherapy used to treat both cancer and non-cancerous lesions. IMRT uses advanced computer technology to design multiple small radiation fields of variable intensities to accurately conform to the shape of the target area(s). The radiation intensity of each field is automatically calculated, and the field shapes change throughout each radiotherapy session. The aim of IMRT is to further distribute the radiation dose to maximize the dose delivered to the target area(s) while avoiding or minimising radiation exposure of healthy normal tissues, even more than 3-D Conformal radiotherapy delivery.

Volumetric Arc Therapy (VMAT) is a more sophisticated form of IMRT that delivers a carefully designed 3-D dose distributions with a 360-degree rotation of the machine in a single or multi-arc treatment. VMAT can perform radiotherapy delivery treatments up to eight times faster than what was previously possible.

Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) uses multiple advanced imaging and motion-control techniques throughout radiotherapy sessions to accurately identify, locate, and monitor the target areas and any changes associated within those target areas. IGRT allows the team to quickly detect and if required modify the treatment plan during patients radiotherapy course, which increases the chances of the treatment being more effective and safer.

Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) can be delivered on most modern linear accelerators. This allows multiple radiation fields to be directed at any part of the body from any direction to deliver a very high radiation dose to the target area and, at the same time, limit damage to healthy tissue. SBRT delivery will be utilises with dedicated IGRT technique and special immobilisation device. SBRT usually will be delivered as a number of sessions and each session may require longer radiotherapy delivery time.
